  • Of course one of the coolest things about Twitter right now is the client applications, particularly the mobile/iPhone ones. I use Tweetie 2 on my iPhone every day. Wouldn’t it be cool if you could get all your blog subscriptions and post to your WordPress.com blog from apps like Tweetie? Well here’s an early Christmas present…

We’ve enabled posting to and reading of WordPress.com blogs via the Twitter API. Any app that allows you to set a custom API URL will work. This project came out of our Quebec meetup and was developed by Team 55 (Andy, Terry, and Raphael).

  • Colour is a powerful and important communication tool, and it is tied to religious, cultural, political and social influences.

By stopping to consider what each colour represents and is linked to in the ‘real world’ we can make informed design decisions that ensure we appeal to our target audience. Without this consideration we run the risk of offending the very people were are designing for.

  • At first glance we may think that Thesis is just another WordPress theme, but on closer inspection you’ll find it is more a framework than it is a completed theme.

The best way to view Thesis is as a starting point rather than a finished product. A choose your own adventure, if you will; to change to a two column layout turn to Page 50.

Although you download and install Thesis just like any other WordPress theme, it is the design options and editors that really take Thesis beyond your typical predesigned theme.

  • My rankings for the Overall Best Open Source CMS (with number one being the highest) were:

    1. WordPress
    2. DotNetNuke
    3. SilverStripe
    4. MODx
    5. XOOPS

Each of the judges on the panel, selects their top three CMS from the five included in this category. The judges are given a lot of reign for how they rank the CMS and may consider a number of factors such as performance, usability, accessibility, ease of configuration and customization, scalability and security. Despite the criteria given, the fact is the best CMS is the CMS you determine is best in meeting your project requirements.

  • Luckily it is easy to integrate with Excel. What you need is a way for users to design a web-based report which provides the raw data they want, and make it available with a short URL (less than 50 characters). Now a user can open up a new Excel workbook, then choose Data, Import External Data, then New Web Query. This pops open a browser. The user puts in their short URL, and the browser loads it. The user can then click on the HTML table that they want, save the web query, and Excel will run it again then fill a spreadsheet with the data in that table. Now a complex set of spreadsheets can be built off of that data, and every time they refresh it will re-run the report and get fresh data.
